The Kosovo Telecommunications Agency (KTA) announced that four potential buyers will be taking part in the tender to award the licence for the second mobile telephony operator in Kosovo. The four potential buyers are the Austrian Mobilkom, Team Kosova, Kosmocell and a consortium comprising IPKO Net and Telecom Slovenia.

The legal advisor to the KTA, Petrit Drguti stated that two bids were rejected because they were submitted after the deadline had expired.

This will be the second bidding for the licence for the second mobile telephony operator in Kosovo. The first one was declared illegitimate, with the explanation that the proper procedures were not adhered to in choosing the winner in the tender – the consortium comprising the Kosovo company Mobikos and the Slovenian Mobitel.

The bids will be considered by a commission comprising representatives of KTA, the Kosovo Government and UNMIK.

The representatives of the Norwegian telecommunications Telenor, which bought the Serbian mobile operator Mobi 63 last year, recently announced that they would not be taking part in the tender for the second mobile telephony operator in Kosovo.
