Slovak government mulls options for the route of a new oil pipeline to connect Bratislava and Austrias Schwechat, local media reported.

However, Bratislava mayor Andrej Durkovsky and representatives of the Bratislava Water Company oppose the planned route of the pipeline.

"I spoke with the self-government representatives. We agreed on establishing working groups that will prepare a realistic proposal," Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek said.

It also admitted that it is not a good idea to lay the oil pipeline near the water reservoir in Petrzalka which supplies Bratislava with drinking water.

If the present route of the pipeline is approved it will pose risk to water resources, Bratislava Water Company said.
