U.S.-based NextWave Wireless Inc., a global provider of mobile broadband and wireless multimedia products and technologies, is to expand to Austria, Croatia and Slovakia, the company said.

The expansion will be conducted via its subsidiary Inquam Broadband GmbH, which will purchase a 65-per-cent stake in Swiss-based WiMAX Telecom AG.

WiMAX Telecom AG has been granted nationwide wireless broadband concessions in Austria and Slovakia as well as a major concession in Croatia.

Thus, the company will have access to 16.8 million POPs.

In Austria, the company will be able to provide a full range of mobile services.

The company hopes to obtain similar licences in Slovakia and Croatia soon.
